Who is going to tell literally every man that produces any kind of media that being aware that your media is misogynistic doesn’t make it satire and isn’t subverting misogynistic tropes
Yes like… just because you’re aware of it doesn’t mean you’re doing anything to counteract it and you’re not giving a scathing critique of it either. Also men don’t know what satire is lol
honestly playing lampshading as satire or progressive is embarrassing on so many levels. like they really expect us to forget that these characters and this world is fictional and that they themselves intentionally formed the story in this way, it’s demeaning to the viewer
@comicdyke Wow, it’s almost like the plot of the movie is that they are actually about some high school kids getting sucked into a videogame from the 90’s/80’s when videogames were kinda super shit towards women’s image. (Laura Croft, anyone? Or literally any female sex object from the era?) Daisy Dukes and Short-shorts are kind of a trope here, be it properly subverted in your eyes or not. Not saying it’s okay because it’s really not but it’s like no one has bothered to even look deeper than the trailer on this, decided to take on the popular opinipn at first glance. The point is it’s supposed to be like that bacause in a way, it’s representative of an honestly shitty time for videogames with depth as well as the women in them. Hell, the entire movie is about subverting tropes because all the kids’ personalities within the bodies and roles of these characters (Except really Kevin Hart, who’s just playing Hart in Central Intelligence again with any interactions he has with The Rock) are in conflict with eachother. Hell, Jack Black is a selfie lovine pop culture trashfire in the real world of the movie rather than a highly educated safari dude that he’s trapped inside of on the game. Hell, Karen Gillian herself defends the outfit when she has every right to-without any real recourse-criticise it in the current given hollywood climate of women’s voices finally being heard more than ever before.
@Semitics Men don’t know what satire is? I guess you’d expect someone to make a scene about that little bit there so you can see “Guess you proved my point” but are you really presenting any form of satire there aside from baiting a response in your masterquest for some sense of kinor superiority? But I guess I’ll just play along and just say “I guess noted man and master satirist Mel Brooks should just go die after 91 years of literally and metophorically fighting nazis in the trenches and on the big screen in the name of his proudly rich jewish heritage.”
I was laughing at this until the end genuinely fucking choke goy
