If someone says: “I don’t mean to assume your gender” in earnest they’re asking if you’re trans

Read: there is almost no good answer to this because you probably shouldn’t ask strangers this in the first place

Also it’s like “oh I don’t want to assume anyone’s gender” and yet you only ask people you Think might not be cis. 👀inch eresting

see also: strangers who ask ppl who they clock as trans for their pronouns (and nobody else) in situations where it’s really not necessary to ask in the first place

Literally I was just thinking this.

Related, be careful about correcting pronouns for others you aren’t sure would like you to. Ask yourself: is it safe/beneficial for said person if you do so? Are they out to everyone or only certain people because like you’re broadcasting that someone is trans

🗣 i’ve had people do that in front of my parents like

If someone did that to me I’d scream no one has common sense about these sorts of situations like PLEASE read the room read the tone use your brain be mindful about not putting a trans person in danger for your perceived SJW ally points please use the wrong pronouns if it ensures me safety
