“Romance movies that pass the bechdel test” -they’re all straight – you know the bechdel test was made by a lesbian right… To describe how alienating media is to lesbians……….

But it’s het women who really need it. If a movie has a lesbian romance in it, the early reviews will make that known. Some will talk about it to the exclusion of everything else in the movie. But a het woman looking for on-screen romance in which she can see herself in all her complexity could scan the reviews all day and still have no idea, going into the theater, whether she will see a female character who is more than just a plot device to move a male character’s story forward – unless one of those reviewers applies the Bechtel Test.
