Quite a few years ago, when I was still an underage baby dyke, I read this article that was part of a series written by a 25-something-year-old lesbian about her adventures on Craigslist. She had agreed to meet a woman for casual sex, but when she saw her in person, she started to think that she acted worryingly young. So she asked her if she could provide any form of identification that proved she was not, in fact, a minor. It turned out that girl was 17, so they just hung out, had a coffee, and went to the fair together instead. Reading this story was such an important moment for me; it opened my eyes to the fact that adults should be concerned about the age of their potential sexual partners, and that for the majority sleeping with a minor is morally repugnant. Just reading that one story completely changed the way I thought about power relationships between adults and teenagers.
