mayhaps completely decontextualizing ‘we’re here, we’re queer, get used to it’ into an every day slogan completely removed from its meaning of ‘no matter what you do, you cannot kill us all, we will survive and thrive in spite of all of the odds because we are strong and stand in solidarity with one another’ was a mistake
especially since so many assholes are using it against other lgbt people who feel uncomfortable with the word queer which is like… the literal opposite of its original usage
‘queer’ was chosen BECAUSE it is uncomfortable and jarring, so to turn around and say ‘I’M HERE, I’M QUEER’ against lgbt people who are just saying ‘it’s a slur, please don’t apply it to me or use it around me’ is so fucked
