once you know the truth about blobfish seeing the average image of one gets really distressing and sad

the truth about blobfish is that they’re deep ocean fish, native to waters deeper than 2000 feet, and when they’re in their native depths they don’t look that much weirder than any other fish

their bodies are essentially a hunk of flesh that’s held together by the water pressure where they live. it’s an adaptation that makes it so it’s easier to move around at those depths

when they are removed from their natural habitat they suffer severe decompression damage and become the huge amorphous blobs that everyone thinks of when they hear the word “blobfish”. they’re literally not meant to ever look or exist that way, they’re essentially being pulled out of shape because humans brought them to the surface (they’re often a bycatch of bottom fishing operations). it sucks
