people who don’t care about politics and choose to ignore what’s happening in the world because “it doesn’t affect them” are either tremendously ignorant or straight up evil. having an attitude of “if it’s not happening to me i don’t care” is a personal failure on your part and incredibly offputting to any half decent person around u so like get well soon
Some of it is not about not caring, it is about we can’t care all the fucking time about every shit thing in the world. I literally have compassion fatigue. There is so much shit happening in this country alone that if I don’t filter it I go into a depression and cannot function when I am not having anxiety attacks. Some people who say it doesn’t affect them so they don’t worry about it are literally choosing their battles. The bad side effect of being highly connected is we are forced to see every tine fucked up detail of the world. Things we really can do nothing about as individuals. Living with that kind of helplessness all day every day will literally kill you from stress. Some people choose to care about what they can only affect. I can only fight the battles in front of me, but I can’t save them all. Some people only have enough energy at the end of the day to just take care of their pets. Some people don’t have the luxury of caring about politics if it doesn’t affect them because they are too worried where they will sleep or if they get to eat that day. People are doing the best they can with what they have. While I am one who does care about politics and do what I can, I do not lump people who do less in with the “ignorant” and “evil” because that in itself is incredibly ignorant and only meant to make you feel superior to others.
