Making tomboys straight in movies is evil

I’m not even kidding. It really is. Simultaneously infantilizing female gendernonconforming as something one grows out of after one is with and in consequence to being in a relationship with a man is evil.

This is making think of the French movie Tomboy and I’m in full agreement. If you haven’t seen that movie, let me sum it up for you (tw sexual assault):

It opens with a father teaching his masculine child how to drive. Then it shows the child full naked getting out of the bathtub to disclose sex of the child (I don’t know why they didn’t just have the mother call the child a girl or something.. why show a full naked child? Why??) as female. The child and younger sister are playing and some other kids show up and ask their names. The kid gives a male name and then goes throughout the movie playing with the other kids and basically being a little boy and falling into all the traditional male gender roles (fighting another boy for bullying his sister, kissing a girl, peeing in the woods standing up). The child even even fashions a little play-dough packer to go in the masculine DIY bathing suit they made out of a feminine bathing suit.

The ending? The mother finds out that her “daughter” has been “pretending to be a boy” and then forces the child into a dress and takes the distraught youngster to a couple of friends houses and is like “oh yeah my kid is actually a girl” and then the friends are like “wait you’re a girl? We need *proof* of that” and then assault the main character. It ends with the main character reintroducing themself with their feminine birth name to the actual character that assaulted them (pulled down their pants in front of the group of friends).

There are so many things wrong with this movie including what you said already (making tomboys straight is evil). I’m so tired of stuff like this.

forget wanderlust, sonder, all those words for vague dreamy feelings… what I’m asking for is a concise word for the feeling you get when someone makes an assumption about you that’s 100% correct but you really don’t like that anyone was able to make that assumption. for now I’m calling it a fuckor

“he asked me ‘you main junkrat right’ and a wave of fuckor wracked my feeble body”

send me asks. make me tremble with fuckor

Someone walked up to me in Barnes and Noble like 4 years ago and asked me where the Manga section was. I told them where, but I also let them know that i didn’t work there. They kind of shrugged then looked me dead in the eyes and said.

“Idk, you just looked like you might know.”

I changed my complete aesthetic after hearing that come to jesus, god fearing, exposé of a line.

The other day my manager admitted that she still shops at hot topic, and when I told I knew already because she seemed like the type she threatened to fire me
